What the solution actually does is abstracting the physical layer from the storage offering (amongs other features): snapshotting. What you can do is snapshot the VM to a disk and write that snapshot during business hours to another media (f.e tape, disk, ...). The SANmelody & SANsymphony solution works on blocklevel and also contains async-mirror, sync-mirror, iSCSI & FC connectivity as well as diskpooling, thin provisioning, ...
